Precursor of the central nervous system that derives from the neurogenic region of the ectoderm or the mesectoderm (Doe, 1992; Schmid et al., 1999; Crews, 2019). It produces neurons and/or glia (Doe, 1992; Beckervordersandforth et al., 2008). Neuroblasts may also divide during adult life to regenerate the adult brain (Fernandez-Hernandez et al., 2013).
