Female-specific adult descending neuron that stimulates oviposition (Wang et al., 2020). One branch arborizes in the superior medial protocerebrum (Wang et al., 2020; Sturner et al., 2025). Another branch projects ventrally, remaining close to the midline, which it crosses above the esophagus (Wang et al., 2020; Sturner et al., 2025). It projects through the contralateral side of the cervical connective and the median dorsal abdominal tract, and arborizes in the abdominal ganglion (Wang et al., 2020; Sturner et al., 2025). There are approximately 8 of these cells per hemisphere and they belong to the SMPpv1 lineage (Dorkenwald et al., 2024; Schlegel et al., 2024; Sturner et al., 2025). They are cholinergic (Wang et al., 2020).
Oviposition descending neuron with unilateral (contralateral) arborization in the abdominal neuromere, which is relatively anterolateral to that of other oviDN cell types (Wang et al., 2020; Sturner et al., 2025). In the brain, it lacks a dorsal projection beside the midline, instead reaching the superior medial protocerebrum via a lateral loop (Wang et al., 2020; Sturner et al., 2025). It also has an ipsilateral ventral neurite (Wang et al., 2020; Sturner et al., 2025). There is one of these cells per hemisphere (Sturner et al., 2025). It expresses fruitless, but not doublesex (Wang et al., 2020).

It follows the median bundle to innervate the flange on both sides (Selcho et al., 2018). It is involved in regulating ingestion (Gonzalez Segarra et al., 2023).
Adult descending neuron of the SMP478 group, with its soma in the brain, posterior-lateral to the antler (Schlegel et al., 2024; Dorkenwald et al., 2024). It belongs to the SMPpv1 hemilineage (Schlegel et al., 2024; Dorkenwald et al., 2024). It has postsynapses in the ipsilateral superior medial protocerebrum and the contralateral superior medial protocerebrum (Schlegel et al., 2024; Dorkenwald et al., 2024). It has presynapses in the contralateral flange, the gnathal ganglia, the saddle and the ipsilateral flange (Schlegel et al., 2024; Dorkenwald et al., 2024). Its predicted neurotransmitter is acetylcholine (Eckstein et al., 2024). There are approximately 2 of these cells per organism (Schlegel et al., 2024; Dorkenwald et al., 2024).
