Their subesophageal arborization is predominantly in the prow (Lee et al., 2015. It exits the brain via the nervus corporis cardiaci (McKim et al., 2024) and axons project to the foregut, anterior midgut and crop (Dus et al., 2015. It can be directly activated by the presence of nutritive sugars (Dus et al., 2015 or a small subset of amino acids (Yang et al., 2018 in the hemolymph. (Dus et al., 2015, Lee et al., 2015, Cannell et al., 2016, Yang et al., 2018, Cabrero et al., 2002, King et al., 2017)
