Immature tendon cell of the embryo (Volk, 1999). It arises from the ectoderm (Volk, 1999). It produces signals that attract a developing muscle towards the attachment site (Schweitzer et al., 2010). Only a subset of these, which become bound to a myotube, develop into mature tendon cells (Volk, 1999), and the others dedifferentiate (Soler et al., 2016).
