obsolete fan-shaped body segment pair Z
ID: FBbt_00007497
Medial-most segment pair of the fan-shaped body.
Obsoleted as the number of columns is variable for different cell types (Hulse et al., 2021 - FBrf0254510) and the most common number is nine, rather than eight or 16 (Wolff et al., 2015 - FBrf0227801; Boyan et al., 2017 - FBrf0236238; Hulse et al., 2021 - FBrf0254510). Hanesch et al. (1989) define 8 segments (A-H), 4 per hemisphere, that correspond to the segment pairs (groups) of slices defined by Ito et al. (2014) and used here. Segment group Z corresponds to D and E in Hanesch's nomenclature, to slices 1 and 2 in Ito et al. (2014) and to column 1 in Lin et al. (2013).
