Adult olfactory receptor neuron that expresses the Ionotropic receptor (Ir) 84a and the co-receptor Ir8a (Benton et al., 2025). Its dendrite transduces signals from the antennal coeloconic sensillum ac4 (Benton et al., 2009). It responds to phenylacetic acid and phenylacetaldehyde (Benton et al., 2025). Its axon innervates antennal lobe glomerulus VL2a bilaterally, following the antennal lobe commissure (Grosjean et al., 2011; Silbering et al., 2011). It develops from an Nab precursor (Benton et al., 2025). There are around 30 of these cells on each side in females and 24 in males (Grabe et al., 2016).

This neuron was indirectly shown to be olfactory by electrophysiological recordings of a single coeloconic sensillum (Grosjean et al., 2011).
