Olfactory receptor neuron (ORN) that expresses the Odorant receptor (Or) 35a (Benton et al., 2025). Its dendrite transduces signals from an antennal coeloconic ac3 sensillum (of either type) (Benton et al., 2009; Prieto-Godino et al., 2017). Its axon innervates antennal lobe glomerulus VC3, bilaterally, fasciculating with the antennal lobe commissure (Couto et al., 2005; Schlegel et al., 2021). It detects alcohols produced by yeast and is required for the enhancement of the proboscis extension reflex in response to yeast odors in combination with low-viscosity food (Oh et al., 2021). It develops from an Nba precursor (Benton et al., 2025). There are approximately 15-20 of these cells on each side (Benton et al., 2025).

A subset of these cells also weakly express Ir76a (Benton et al., 2025).
