primordial germ cell [FBbt_00000092]
Cell that begins as a pole cell, becomes incorporated into the gonad and can develop into a germline stem cell (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997; Dansereau and Lasko, 2008; Slaidina et al., 2020).

Cell
Cell that begins as a pole cell, becomes incorporated into the gonad and can develop into a germline stem cell (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997; Dansereau and Lasko, 2008; Slaidina et al., 2020).
Can be identified in the larva by expression of vasa (Slaidina et al., 2020). Only a small subset of pole cells can become germ cells and this fate might be specified by the time the posterior midgut primordium invaginates (Okada, 1998).
