fan-shaped body tangential neuron [FBbt_00003657]
Neuron with a large arborization field that fills a layer of the fan-shaped body (FB) in both the transverse and longitudinal directions (Hanesch et al., 1989; Hulse et al., 2021). Their arbors do not usually show a separation into columns (Hanesch et al., 1989). As a population, these neurons arborize in all FB layers, but most cells target one layer (Hanesch et al., 1989; Hulse et al., 2021). They generally receive input in other regions and have presynaptic sites in the FB, but some are intrinsic to the FB (Hulse et al., 2021).
