cardiogenic mesoderm [FBbt_00005541]
Dorsal-most region of the trunk mesoderm that gives rise to the dorsal vessel (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997). It forms a leading edge as the invaginated trunk mesoderm spreads from ventral to dorsal (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997). The left and right regions eventually fuse at the dorsal midline and their cells differentiate into cardioblasts and pericardial cells (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997).
