A cluster of 4-6 sensory neurons of the intercalary segment attached to the basal aspect of neurons belonging to the terminal organ (Schmidt-Ott et al., 1994; Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997). These neurons have no associated cuticular structure and do not have the typical morphology of bipolar sensory neurons (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997).
