Its first division produces a daughter cell that generates only glia and a daughter cell that produces ganglion mother cells that give rise to neurons (Akiyama-Oda et al., 1999. It dies in late embryogenesis (Lacin and Truman, 2016. (Schmid et al., 1999, Lacin and Truman, 2016, Akiyama-Oda et al., 1999)
