Ommatidial subtype with stochastic distribution throughout the retina, making up about 30% of all non-dorsal margin ommatidia. This ommatidial subtype is specialized to detect shorter wavelengths (near UV + blue) than yellow ommatidia. (Wernet and Desplan, 2004)
