Larva Nervous system Sense organ

Club-like sensory structure found in the thoracic segments of the embryo/larva. (Dambly-Chaudiere and Ghysen, 1986)

Dambly-Chaudiere and Ghysen, 1986 argue that since the Kolbchen is not black (except when viewed with phase contrast) and is more than a pit, the original name of Kolbchen (meaning 'small club') is preferable to 'pit' or 'black dot'.
