Adult fruitless neuron with its soma in the posterior inferior protocerebrum (Cachero et al., 2010). It develops from neuroblast BLP2 (VLPp1) (Ito et al., 2013; Yu et al., 2013). These neurons show no gross sexual dimorphism (Cachero et al., 2010).

Cachero et al. (2010) say that pIP3 and pIP7 from Yu et al. (2010) are morphologically distinct subtypes of pIP-c.
