fan-shaped body column [FBbt_00040036]
Subdivision of the fan-shaped that reflects the arrangement of vertical fibers of fan-shaped body columnar neurons (Ito et al., 2014). Columns are well defined in inferior layers, but are more relaxed in layers 4-8 and are not apparent in layer 9 (Wolff et al., 2015). The number and width of columns varies for different types of columnar neuron (Scheffer et al., 2020).
