An external compound sense organ of the antenno-maxillary complex of the larval head consisting of two sensilla, a dome shaped cuticular process, and a region surrounding the base of the dome (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997; Komarov and Sprecher, 2022. Each dome sensillum is innervated by seven circularly arranged triplets of olfactory receptor neuron dendrites (Komarov and Sprecher, 2022. Eleven sensory neurons of other modalities innervate six sensilla of each base region (Komarov and Sprecher, 2022; Richter et al., 2024).
