It receives a large amount of gustatory neuron input, mainly from high salt-sensing neurons and its activation results in proboscis extension (Shiu et al., 2022. It is predicted to be cholinergic (Shiu et al., 2022. It is predicted to be a primary neuron (Dorkenwald et al., 2024; Schlegel et al., 2024.
