Skeletal muscle that does not exhibit a direct relationship between motor neuron activity and muscle contraction. Asynchronous muscles have very large fibrils, with nuclei scattered between them and distributed throughout the entire cross-section of the fiber. Some indirect flight muscles are asynchronous.
