It attaches via a long tendon to the posterior head (Gorko et al., 2024). It is innervated by the CvN5-8 motor neurons (Gorko et al., 2024).

Based on lateral attachment to sternal apodeme and tendon connecting to posterior head, VL1 and VL2 probably correspond to muscle 27 in Miller (1950) - FBrf0186027.
