A small area of neuropil on the frontomedial edge of the medulla, close to the outgoing fibers running from the serpentine layer to the posterior optic commissure. It is the descendant of the larval optic neuropil (Sprecher et al., 2011. (Sprecher et al., 2011, Ito et al., 2014, Helfrich-Forster et al., 2007)
