Adult olfactory receptor neuron that expresses the Ionotropic receptor (Ir) 75b and the co-receptor Ir8a (Silbering et al., 2011; Prieto-Godino et al., 2017; Benton et al., 2025. It innervates antennal glomerulus DL2d bilaterally (Prieto-Godino et al., 2017; Benton et al., 2025. Its dendrite transduces signals from antennal coeloconic sensillum ac3 type I (Prieto-Godino et al., 2017. It responds to carboxylic acids and aldehydes (Prieto-Godino et al., 2017; Benton et al., 2025. It develops from an Nab precursor (Benton et al., 2025. There are around 8 of these cells on each side (Schlegel et al., 2021; Benton et al., 2025. This neuron was directly shown to be olfactory by electrophysiological recordings of a single neuron (Benton et al., 2009. Prieto-Godino et al., 2017 showed that these cells do not express Ir15a and previous detection of Ir75a (Benton et al., 2009 was likely due to transcription of the 5' end of Ir75a at the 3' end of Ir75b transcripts, rather than genuine Ir75a coding transcripts. They also show that cells expressing the Ir75b and Ir75c proteins are distinct (with previous co-occurrence similarly due to transcriptional run off from Ir75c).
