Neuroblast that delaminates at S4 and generates a contralaterally projecting motorneuron and approximately 8 local interneurons (Schmid et al., 1999. In the embryo, one of these cells can be found in each hemisegment from T1-A8 (Birkholz et al., 2013; Urbach et al., 2016. In the larva, it resumes proliferation in T2-A1 (Lacin and Truman, 2016. The neurons that develop from this neuroblast after larval hatching form postembryonic lineage 18 (Lacin and Truman, 2016. (Birkholz et al., 2013, Lacin and Truman, 2016, Schmid et al., 1999, Urbach et al., 2016, Birkholz et al., 2015)

Birkholz et al., 2015 suggest that NB2-4 generates postembryonic lineage 8 and NB3-4 generates postembryonic lineage 18, but Lacin and Truman, 2016 provide lineage tracing and marker data showing that NB2-4 generates lineage 18. Lacin and Truman, 2016 Fig1S1 shows postembryonic NB2-4 in T1, but text and Fig3 shows loss of NB2-4 in T1 in the late embryo.
