Layer of the lobula that is fourth-most from the second optic chiasm. It contains the terminals of the translobula plate Tlp 2, 3, 4 and 5 neurons. (Fischbach and Dittrich, 1989)
Fischbach and Dittrich, (1989), comment that lobula layer 4 could potentially be further subdivided based on the stratified arborizations of the Tlp neurons.
