It contains the terminals of enteric neurons from the frontal connective that enter via the medial root of the pharyngeal nerve (Kendroud et al., 2018; Miroschnikow et al., 2018). It is also contributed to by neurons of the dorsal pharyngeal sense organ that follow the anterior root of the pharyngeal nerve (Kendroud et al., 2018; Miroschnikow et al., 2018).
