Narrow region of the anterior optic tubercle with weaker synaptic labelling (Otsuna and Ito, 2006; Ito et al., 2014). It lies in between the lateral and medial zones (Omoto et al., 2017) and contains the terminals of MC64 neurons (Hulse et al., 2021).

Wedge-shaped region arborized by MC64 (MeTu-m) neuron in Timaeus et al. (2020) and Hulse et al. (2021) appears to correspond to low density region described in Otsuna and Ito (2006) and Ito et al. (2014). Based on TuBu neuron projections in Hulse et al. (2021) and Omoto et al. (2017), this is AOTUim from Omoto et al. (2017).
