Small muscle that attaches near the base of the haltere, anterior to the axillary muscles (Lawrence, 1982; Dickerson et al., 2019. There are two of these muscles per haltere (Dickerson et al., 2019. (Dickerson et al., 2019, Lawrence, 1982)
Muscle 78a in Lawrence, 1982 (following Miller, 1950 nomenclature) is the anteriormost of two small muscles described as attaching near the base of the haltere - so probably corresponds to the haltere basalare muscle group in Dickerson et al., 2019 and Ehrhardt et al. (2023).
