Subdivision of the fan-shaped that reflects the arrangement of vertical fibers of fan-shaped body columnar neurons (Ito et al., 2014. Columns are well defined in inferior layers, but are more relaxed in layers 4-8 and are not apparent in layer 9 (Wolff et al., 2015. The number and width of columns varies for different types of columnar neuron (Scheffer et al., 2020. (Ito et al., 2014, Scheffer et al., 2020, Wolff et al., 2015, Hanesch et al., 1989)
