Anatomy Larva

The embryonic/larval dorsal vessel from the middle of A4 to its posterior tip. It is broader and has a larger lumen then the aorta. It is separated from the aorta by a single intracardial valve (Lehmacher et al., 2012).

The larval heart was initially described as being divided in three distinct chambers, with as many valves. However, a recent anatomical and histological study did not confirm this, and reported instead a single chamber, with a single valve separating it from the aorta (Lehmacher et al., 2012).
