Concentric subdivision of the ellipsoid body that lies anteriorly in the inner part of the ellipsoid body (Renn et al., 1999; Lin et al., 2013; Omoto et al., 2018. It contains the arborizations of R3a, R3d and R3m ring neurons (Omoto et al., 2018. (Renn et al., 1999)

The 'anterior ring' of Hanesch et al., 1989 and 'anterior disk' of Renn et al., 1999 appear to refer to EBa, EBic and EBoc, collectively. The 'medial shell' of Wolff et al., 2015 refers to EBic and EBoc (Omoto et al., 2018. Lin et al., 2013 included R2 neuron arborizations in this (EBA) domain, but Renn et al., 1999 and Omoto et al., 2018 assign them to the outer domain (EBoc).
