DNg24 [FBbt_00047616]

Descending neuron belonging to the DNg group, having a cell body in the lateroanterior gnathal ganglion (Matsuo et al., 2016; Namiki et al., 2018). The primary neurite extends posterioventromedially along the ventral edge of the anterior gnathal ganglion, then turns dorsally, arborizing in the ipsilateral antennal mechanosensory and motor center (AMMC) zones A, B and E, saddle, gnathal ganglion and wedge (Matsuo et al., 2016). A thin fiber crosses the midline ventral to the esophagus, then turns ventrally to arborize in the contralateral saddle and posterior gnathal ganglion, before leaving the brain (Matsuo et al., 2016). A branch of the contralateral projection also arborizes in the AMMC zones A and B (Matsuo et al., 2016). Postsynaptic terminals are found in the AMMC in both hemispheres and presynaptic terminals are found in the contralateral saddle and the bilateral gnathal ganglion (Matsuo et al., 2016). It descends on the contralateral side of the cervical connective, fasciculates with the ventral medial tract of the ventral cervical fascicle and innervates the intermediate tectulum, and T1 and T2 median ventral association centers (Namiki et al., 2018). There is one of these cells per hemisphere (Namiki et al., 2018).
