Adult DN1 neuron with its soma in the dorsal posterior cell body rind (Reinhard et al., 2022). There are approximately 16 of these cells per hemisphere and they are heterogeneous (Reinhard et al., 2022; Reinhard et al., 2024). All of these cells innervate the posterior superior medial protocerebrum and superior lateral protocerebrum as well as the posterior ventromedial lateral horn and the dorsal posterior lateral protocerebrum (Reinhard et al., 2022). They are glutamatergic (Reinhard et al., 2024).
