Larva Nervous system Sense organ Visual system

Visual organ of the larva that is anchored to the basal surface of the thin epithelium of the dorsal pouch, lateral to the musculature of the pharynx (Green et al., 1993; Hartenstein et al., 2019. It consists of a dense cluster of approximately 12 photoreceptor neurons and no support cells (Green et al., 1993; Hartenstein et al., 2019. It is connected to the brain via the Bolwig nerve (Green et al., 1993. (Green et al., 1993, Hartenstein et al., 2019, Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997)
